Yarrawonga Neighbourhood House is committed to Professional Development for staff as part of its aim to provide quality training and programs to meet the needs of our committee.
2015 has been a big year for two of the key training staff here at YNH.
Shauna Farey and Belinda Webb were privileged to be awarded a fellowship and scholarship with the VET Development Centre.
Shauna is the Training Manager at YNH as well as facilitating all of the hospitality short courses and the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
Shauna chose to use her fellowship to undertake the Diploma of Vocational Education and Training at the Gordon in Geelong. She has attended monthly face to face classes as well as attending weekly webinars in order to complete this course. She chose the Gordon because they use this blended delivery model, a model which YNH are using to deliver TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, the dual qualification CHC30212 Certificate III in Aged Care and CHC30312 Certificate III in Home and Community Care as well as HLTAID003 Provide First Aid.
Another key component of the fellowship has been personal development seminars and attendance at the VET development centre’s Teaching and Learning Conference at Torquay in September.
The Diploma of VET has enabled Shauna to hone her skills as a trainer and assessor in the VET industry, develop further skills in instructional design and development as well as expand her already extensive network in the Learn Local and TAFE sectors.
Shauna says, “2015 has been a massive year. I have two children aged 7 and 4. I have become a master juggler as I tried to keep my work life balance in check as I continued my study and completed the assessment requirements. I have joked at times that I am very lucky to have such supportive family, friends and work colleagues. I could not have done it without their continued support.”
Shauna’s ability to juggle her time has not gone unnoticed.
“Thanks for being such an outstanding Dip VET student this year – you’re proof that multi-tasking can work brilliantly in the hands of highly capable people.”

Belinda is the Training Assistant at YNH.
Belinda used her scholarship to study Certificate IV in Training and Assessment here at YNH. Belinda came to YNH with a great deal of business and IT skills, but no real experience in the VET industry. Undertaking this course has given Belinda a greater understanding of the VET industry and she hopes to use her new qualification to expand her employability options into training and assessing in the near future.
Belinda has attended numerous VET development centre webinars to enhance her learning this year.
“This year has seen Belinda develop a keen understanding of the ever changing VET industry. This is no mean feat considering 2015 has seen some major changes in training package development, unit design as well as new Standards for RTOs. I am very proud of how far she has come this year.”
