YNH wishes to congratulate the Yarrawonga Men’s Shed Mentoring Project team of John Burn (Men’s Shed), Heather Kelly (YNH), Pam Marshall (Rural Access Worker) and Leonie Orr (Savernake Primary School).
The Mentoring Project won the 2015 Victorian Disability Sector Award in the category of Excellence in Personal and Community Support. The award was presented at a ceremony in Melbourne on Tuesday 21st July.
The project developed a program to offer support to a young boy and provide a safe open environment where he was supported by older males to be involved in activities of interest at the Men’s Shed.
The project has led to enhanced social and emotional development and self-esteem for the young boy, stronger networks and collaborative partnerships between the stakeholders who developed the program and the development of a scaffolded model that could be rolled out elsewhere.
This great example of organisations working together to achieve a fantastic result is what Community is all about. Congratulations everyone!
